Stories Of Hope

Bal Sanskar Kender

Elementary education is the foundation stone for the upliftment of a civilized society. Striving to inculcate virtues and promote self-reliance, Sewa Bharti Himachal Pradesh, Shimla has launched a project called Bal Sanskar Kendra to take education to the doorstep of those unable to receive formal schooling. Children living in service settlements (slums), especially in industrial areas like Baddi, face barriers that prevent them from attending school. These youth often find themselves lost and engaged in inappropriate activities after their parents go to work. However, upon meeting the dedicated volunteers of Sewa Bharti Himachal Pradesh Shimla, these children were introduced to the joys of a more prosperous lifestyle and education. These projects are not limited to industrial areas only, they are also playing a very important role in the most backward areas of Sirmaur, Rampur, Kangra, Chamba. The aim of this project is not only to prevent them from engaging in destructive behaviors but also to try to build a brighter future based on education and knowledge. Apart from academic education, Bal Sanskar Kendra also imparts important social and national values to these children. Despite the lack of formal infrastructure, these centers operate in open fields or within the homes of dedicated volunteers. This pioneering effort has received substantial support from the local communities and families of the children involved. The modest steps taken by Sewa Bharti Himachal Pradesh Shimla workers have left a lasting impact on the motivation levels of both the young learners and their parents in the community. There are 16 such centers across the state making a significant impact. More than 150 students, who had never experienced formal education, were enrolled in regular schools after participating in this transformative project. This achievement is indeed commendable, which shows the positive impact of this initiative.
